After 8 years of operation, Path's social media platform finally decided to retire. Through the message of service to users, the application, born in San Francisco, California, announced that it will stop operating on the 10th of October 2018.

"We heartily announce that Path will not be continued and user policy will be terminated on October 18, 2018. Please visit our site for further details," Path said on his log-in page, Monday (08/17). Not explained in detail why the service is turned off. However, they cannot compete with other social media giants such as Facebook, Twitter, until Instagram is strongly suspected to be one of the causes.

Many netizens regret this closure. Moreover, Path had grown to become one of the largest social media with the most users from the Asian Continent.

However, in addition to netizens, there may be no one who regrets the closure more than the founders and builders. There are at least three key figures behind Path since it was first released in November 2010. Who are they?

David Moorin

The man was born on October 14, 1980 in Montana, United States and served as CEO and co-founder of the Path Path. Before taking part in Path, he had served as one of the executives of the social networking media Facebook.

Long before becoming a Facebook executive, Moorin first started his career at Apple in 2003. At that time he held a position in marketing. Three years ago, exactly 2006 Moorin joined Facebook.

While working on Facebook, he developed a software that allows third parties to create an application on Facebook. Successfully developing Facebook, Moorin came out and formed Path with two friends in 2010.

Dustin Mierau

Mierau occupies the position of co-founder and chief desiggner in Path. Reporting from The Verge, before pioneering Path, Mierau first established a Macster application which later became Napster. A streaming music application that is also used by Mac.

According to him, designing a software is indeed a difficult job. There are many layers to make a software complete. Starting from visual, interaction with users, performance, operating system, guidelines, to how to overcome errors.

He said, not expecting to be one of the founders of Path. However, thanks to his persistence in the software world, Dusti was able to create Path with simple initial ideas.

Shawn Fanning

The third figure of the founder of Path is a man named Shawn Fanning. He was born in Massachusetts, USA, November 22, 1980. He is a computer programmer and investor in America. In 1999 ago, Fanning established a document file sharing application or peer-to-peer (P2P) lending.

The application is quite popular in the US community. His success was once raised in the front cover of Time Magazine.

Path Application Want to Closed?

The timeline of social media, especially Twitter, is being enlivened by news about the Path application being closed. Users share screenshots stating that the application  will be stopped.

In this screenshot, it appears Path announces this news through sponsored posts in the timeline, not through notifications or other messages. The announcement was titled "The Last Goodbye" complete with notification sentences and pictures of Path characters saying goodbye.

"We are very sorry to let you know if Path will stop running. Please visit this site for details about the restore / refund process," wrote the announcement, in a viral screenshot in cyberspace.

So far, there is no official information from Path regarding the plan to close the application. When the coil team opens the Path application, we do not receive similar notifications and can still perform various activities normally in the application, such as updating location, status, songs, photos and more.

It seems that only a handful of users have gotten this information in their timetable.

When traced, the official Twitter account from the Path application has indeed not been active for a long time. The last time the @Path account tweeted on May 21st. In addition, the application also last received software updates in May.

Path, an application developed in 2010 by Path Inc company from San Francisco, USA, was once a very popular application in Indonesia in its time. Before Instagram was popular as it is now, people, especially young people, initially spend more time on the Path application.

They can do a lot in this application, such as uploading locations, photos, status, listening to songs, as well as marking the tagged friends of certain friends.

In 2015, Path was bought by a South Korean company, Daum Kakao, who also developed the Kakao Talk application. That way, the Path application is now managed by Daum Kakao completely.

However, since this acquisition, it seems that the future of Path in Indonesia is even more bleak. Path is increasingly left behind when its users prefer to be active on Instagram, especially after the Stories feature.

Path's attempt to present a similar feature called Coverstory did not produce results. It seems like the users are really bored.

However, now when the news circulates that Path will be closed, netizens actually show their sadness because they think this application has left a lot of memories.

Indeed, humans often feel something that means when they lose it.
