Trump Blames Syria about Russian Aircraft Falling in the Mediterranean

Trump Blames Syria about Russian Aircraft Falling in the Mediterranean

US President Donald Trump said Syria was a shooter of Russian military aircraft that crashed in the Mediterranean Sea. Trump's statement contradicts the Russian Government which previously accused Israel of being the source of the incident.

"It sounds to me, and in my opinion, based on the fact review, that Syria shot down Russian planes. And I understand that around 14 people were killed and that was very sad but that was what happened, "Trump said as quoted by Reuters.

Trump added that his party was currently trying to "clean up" Syria from the Islamic State (IS) group.

"We have done extraordinary work in Syria and in the region eradicated ISIS, that's why we are there. And we almost finished the job, "he said.

Regardless of Trump's assumption, the Russian Defense Ministry will steadily retaliate against Israel's actions which are alleged to have carried out hostile actions against his country.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, IL-20 military aircraft, in which there were 15 soldiers, crashed because of Syrian anti-fighter aircraft gunfire which was the Red Bear State's ally.

Although actually because of Syria, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Israel must take responsibility. This is because at the time of the incident, Israeli fighter jets were carrying out air strikes on Syria.

Therefore, Russian aircraft near the Israeli attack area did not have time to escape. The plane was finally hit by a shot and then fell.

Russian aircraft lost from unintentional radar shot by Syria

Russian Ilyushin Il-20 reconnaissance military aircraft that disappeared from radar late Monday (09/17/2018) was accidentally shot down by its own ally, Syria.

The news was revealed by a US official who understood the incident, as reported by CNN Tuesday (9/18/2018).

The anonymous official said the fall of Il-20 after the Syrian defense system made a counter-attack on Israeli fighter jets.

Four F-16 fighter jets held attacks in Latakia Province. When replying to that, the Il-20 aircraft carrying 14 personnel was hit.

Washington understands the incident after Syria broadcast an international radio frequency call for rescue requests.

The US then received a message directly from a country regarding the type of aircraft being shot and the shooting situation.

The official did not explain which country gave the aircraft details. However, the strong suspicion that the country that described it was Russia.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Soviet-made aircraft disappeared in the Mediterranean Sea, 35 kilometers from the Syrian coast.

The plane was shot at 11:00 p.m. local time. The Kremlin official said, the fall of Il-20 was an "unexpected critical incident".

In his statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said there was a country that helped Israel attack Latakia which is the base of President Bashar al-Assad.

One of them is France. Moscow said there were missiles fired from their destroyer, The Auvergne.

Paris denied the allegations. While the US said they also did not launch any missiles to Syria.

The loss of IL-20 came hours after Russia guaranteed that it would not carry out attacks in Idlib Province.

In a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for one hour, the two agreed to form a demilitarized zone.

In the 15-20 kilometer wide zone, communication lines will be established between the remaining rebel groups and the Syrian government on 1 October 15.

Putin said, the effort was expected to make radical groups such as the Al-Nusra Front to leave the Idlib.

Russia intervened to assist the Assad regime in the Syrian conflict in 2015. Together with Damascus, they intend to attack Idlib which is the rebel's last base.

UN: Israel violates international law in Palestine

The UN special envoy for the Middle East peace process, Nickolay Mladenov, said on Sunday, September 16, 2018, the demolition of Palestinian Bedouin homes in Khan al-Ahmar Village was a violation of international law.

"I pay attention to the attitude of the Israeli authorities who dismantled the village of Khan Al-Ahmar / Abu Al-Helu," he said through a statement sent to Middle East Monitor.

Mladenov also said, "I urge Israeli authorities not to continue dismantling villages and stop relocating Palestinians in the occupied West Bank."

The UN official stressed, "What Israel is doing clearly violates international law and can damage the establishment of a Palestinian state that wants to live side by side."

Israel attacked Syria again on Saturday (9/15) last night. One area near the airport in Damascus was the target of this attack.

According to Syrian state media reports a number of Israeli missiles successfully prevented Syrian air defense. "Our air defense system foils Israeli missile aggression," the SANA news agency quoted a military source as saying on Sunday (9/16).

Meanwhile, the leader of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in the UK said yesterday's missile attack targeted weapons depots in the airport area.

The place is known to have just brought weapons to the Iranian or Lebanese Hezbollah militia. Even so, the Israeli military spokesman has not commented on the foreign report.

A separate statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was still working to prevent the enemy, so his country armed itself with sophisticated weapons.

"Our red line is as sharp as before and our determination to target it is stronger than before," Netanyahu said as quoted by Haaretz page on Sunday (9/16).

In early September, Syrian state media reported Israeli jets attacking military targets in the northwest Syrian city of Hama with a target of Iranian positions there.

In the previous month, in August, Syrian chemical weapons development scientist Aziz Asber was killed with his personal driver when the car he was driving exploded in a city near Masyaf, northwest Syria. State media accused the Israeli attack of Aziz's death.

Several strikes near Masyaf have also been linked to Israel in recent years, including on July 22. In May, Israel said it attacked almost all Iranian military infrastructure in Syria.

The attack targeted Israeli-controlled areas in the broad military exchanges that had existed between the two hostile countries.

Earlier Israel admitted to carrying out airstrikes in Syria aimed at reducing the capacity of Iranian troops and allies, including the Lebanese Shiite group which supports Assad in the country's seven-year civil war.

Senior Israeli officials noted that the Israeli military had attacked more than 200 targets and fired 800 missiles and mortars during the past year and a half.

Not Answering the Telephone from the President, Six Sri Lankan Diplomats Repatriated

The Sri Lankan government recalled its ambassador in Austria along with five other embassy staff, after they failed to answer the president's call.

Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Austria, Priyanee Wijesekera was recalled to his country after he did not answer when contacted by President Maithripala Sirisena last week.

"The ambassador did not answer when he was called by President Sirisena for several hours," an official source told AFP on Saturday (9/15/2018).

However, there are no pressing issues about what the president wants to discuss with the ambassador so that he calls directly and not through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry also confirmed the news of the summoning of the ambassador and a number of embassy staff, but still gave no reason.

The Sri Lankan embassy in Austria is also accredited with UN agencies in Vienna, as are the embassies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Previously reported, President Sirisena was emotional because the beans served for her while riding a plane belonging to a state airline were considered not to be eaten.

The incident was experienced by the president on a flight back from Nepal.

"When my flight back from Kathmandu I was served cashews on Sri Lanka flight. But the beans were not very tasty even a dog would not eat it," he said on Monday (09/09/2018) early last week.

The president's complaint was immediately responded to by the airline which would replace the cashew stock which was served for flights in the business class, as well as replacing the supplier called from Dubai.

Minister of Finance of Nigeria Withdraws from Counterfeit Certificates

Nigerian Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun resigned on charges he used counterfeit certificates to avoid the obligation to serve in a youth organization in the past.

Adeosun lived in England until the age of 34 years. He claimed to have been informed that he did not need to enter the Nigerian National Youth Corps because he was more than 30 years old.

The former banker claimed to have obtained a certificate from the corps, and believed it to be genuine.

But an internal investigation said the certificate was fake.

Adeosun's resignation came after speculation on Nigerian social media in recent months, which doubted the authenticity of the certificate.

Initially, Adeosun didn't comment. This sparked criticism from the opposition.

In an official statement, Adesoun felt the need to resign because the results of the investigation regarding the certificate were publicly known.

"This case surprised me. In accordance with the integrity focus of this government, I feel the need to resign," Adeosun said, as quoted from BBC news agency, Saturday, September 15, 2018.

Having dual citizenship in Britain and Nigeria, Adeosun was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as Minister of Finance of Nigeria in 2015. His main policy was to increase tax revenue and improve coordination between government institutions.

The Nigerian presidential office said Adeosun would be replaced by Minister of Budget Planning and National Zainab Ahmed.

In the rules in Nigeria, a university graduate must serve at the National Youth Corps for one year. The aim of this scheme is to ensure all university graduates contribute to Nigeria's development efforts.

Germany Willing to Help Redevelop Syria

Germany Willing to Help Redevelop Syria

Germany is ready to contribute to rebuilding Syria if a political solution is found in the form of political change in the country, affirmed the German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, Friday (09/14)

A few hours before meeting his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Berlin, Maas responded to Russian President Vladimir Putin's request in August for Europe to help with reconstruction in Syria. "If there is a political solution in Syria that leads to free elections, then we are ready to take responsibility for reconstruction," wrote Maas on Twitter.

"It is in our interest that Syria be a stable country. For that, reconstruction is needed. And we have an important role in that."

At the same time, Maas also underlined the request for government in Berlin for Moscow to use its influence to make Syrian President Bashar al-Assad withdraw from Idlib.

Idlib is an area that Syria wants to recapture with the help of its allies. Currently, Idlib is still controlled by opposition militias who oppose the government of Bashar al-Assad. Idlib is the only area that is outside the control of the Syrian Government.

The Russian-backed Assad regime mobilized soldiers around Idlib in recent weeks. This situation sparked fears of an air and land attack.

During a visit to Berlin last August, Putin had asked Europe to fund the reconstruction of Syria to allow millions of refugees to return. "We need to strengthen humanitarian efforts in the Syrian conflict," he said.

Germany has been flooded with one million asylum seekers since 2015, most of whom fled the war in Syria and Iraq.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is now also preparing a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday (14/09) in Sochi. "The meeting is being prepared," said a Kremlin spokesman.

Turkey's top diplomat, Mevlut Cavusoglu, told reporters in Islamabad that the leaders would discuss the Syrian crisis later Monday.

UNICEF: Yemen's Hell War Effects for the Life of Children

The UNICEF report in Yemen shows more than 11 million children, or around 80 percent of the country's population under the age of 18, facing the threat of food shortages, illness, displacement and lack of access to social services.

"The conflict has made Yemen a life hell for children," said Meritxell Relano, UNICEF representative in Yemen, as reported by Reuters.

According to UNICEF's record, an agency under the auspices of the United Nations, around 8.4 million of the 28 million people in Yemen are believed to be on the verge of starvation and another 22 million depend on humanitarian assistance.

"An estimated 1.8 million children are malnourished. "Nearly 400 thousand have acute malnutrition and they have to fight every day to maintain their lives," he added.

UNICEF has provided medical assistance to 244 thousand under-five children who are malnourished with treatment since early 2018. The institute also provides micronutreine care to more than 317 thousand children under five.

Residents inspect buildings damaged by the air strike of the Saudi Arabian coalition in Amran, Yemen, June 25, 2018. Saudi Arabia's coalition attack killed eight people, who were one family.

The UN Humanitarian Institution Coordinator, Lise Grande, said that parties related to the conflict were obliged to protect civilians, and civilian infrastructure, as well as ensuring that people had access to the assistance they had the right and need to survive.

"The price of human life and the humanitarian impact of this conflict cannot be justified," he said in a statement.

The Yemeni war was motivated by a conflict between a coalition of Arab Sunni Muslim countries, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates against the Houthis who won Iranian support. The Saudi Arabian coalition blocked the Yamans import route so that it slowed aid to Yemen.

360,000 people killed during the 7 years of the Syrian war

9/13/2018
360,000 people killed during the 7 years of the Syrian war

More than 360,000 people have been killed in Syria in the war for 7 years.

That was the statement from the Human Rights Monitoring Agency in Syria (SOHR) on Thursday (09/13/2018), as reported by AFP.

Meanwhile, the international community is concerned about the Syrian government attack on rebels in Idlib province which will be a major bloodbath.

Syrian War

So far, there were 364,792 people recorded as dead, of which one third were civilians.

The number of victims shows an increase of around 13,000 in the past six months.

In detail, the war killed 110,687 civilians, including more than 20,000 children and nearly 13,000 women.

More than 124,000 pro-government fighters have been killed, about half of them in government regime forces and the rest consisting of Syrian and foreign militias loyal to Assad.

Among them, there were 1,665 casualties from the Lebanese Hezbollah movement.

SOHR recorded the death of 64,000 people from hardline groups, including from the ISIS group and former Al-Qaeda affiliated factions.

As many as 64,800 members from other groups, including rebels, defected soldiers and the Kurdish faction, have also been killed since the war raged in 2011.

End of humanitarian assistance from Israel

Regarding humanitarian assistance, the Israeli military announced the end of operations on humanitarian and medical assistance for Syrian residents in the Golan Heights.

Israel has a policy of providing assistance to Syrian residents who reach the Golan armistice, without engaging in conflict.

"This humanitarian assistance has ended with the return of the Syrian regime in the southern part of Syria," said an Israeli military statement.

In the past five years, as many as 4,900 Syrian civilians, including 1,300 children, have been treated at Israeli hospitals.

About 7,000 Syrians were also treated in emergency hospitals near Holan's ceasefire line.

Food, medical equipment, medicines, tents, generators, fuel and clothing were given to them as part of "Operation Good Neighbor"

Australia criticized for having 5 prime ministers in 5 years

Australia criticized for having 5 prime ministers in 5 years

Renowned entrepreneur Frank Lowy made a scathing assessment of Australia's current political climate. He called the series of changes in political leadership unacceptable and warned that democracy was "carefully guarded".

"Having five prime ministers in five years is unacceptable," he said before Australian political and business leaders on Thursday (9/13) night.

"Democracy must be nurtured and treated carefully," he added.

Frank Lowy, one of the giant founders of the Westfield shopping center, delivered a speech on the 15th anniversary of the Lowy Institute, a well-known think tank in Australia. Lowy called national development a "hard task" but according to him being in the top position was even more difficult.

The 87-year-old man criticized the nation's tendency towards immigrants, and praised the work of former Foreign Minister Julie Bishop. Julie Bishop himself described Lowy as "one of the best citizens" and said his story reflected "the classic truth of our good fortune as a nation".

Lowy arrived in Australia at the age of 21 with his brother after fleeing World War II in Europe. He called himself a "boat man" who fled to Palestine.

He said for almost 70 years of living in Australia, having experienced this country open to new ideas, but felt that sentiment had declined.

Scott Morrison is now Australia's new prime minister replacing Malcolm Turnbull

"I think we are moving in the wrong direction," he said. "We should talk about targets, not caps."

"Now that our borders are safe, I'm sure we can be ambitious about immigration and be generous to refugees who come through the process," he said.

He also highlighted US leaders who were arguably Australia's most important ally. According to Lowy, the future of Australia's relations with the United States is deeper than the figure who now sits in the White House.

"I am sorry that Trump did not see the big profits flowing to America from global trade alliances and systems," he said.

"And personally, according to my life experience, I feel more comfortable when the president of the United States is a supporter of democracy, not a friend of authoritarian leaders," he said.

"Our alliance is not with the Trump administration, but with the United States," Lowy said.
