The Sri Lankan government recalled its ambassador in Austria along with five other embassy staff, after they failed to answer the president's call.

Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Austria, Priyanee Wijesekera was recalled to his country after he did not answer when contacted by President Maithripala Sirisena last week.

"The ambassador did not answer when he was called by President Sirisena for several hours," an official source told AFP on Saturday (9/15/2018).

However, there are no pressing issues about what the president wants to discuss with the ambassador so that he calls directly and not through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry also confirmed the news of the summoning of the ambassador and a number of embassy staff, but still gave no reason.

The Sri Lankan embassy in Austria is also accredited with UN agencies in Vienna, as are the embassies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Previously reported, President Sirisena was emotional because the beans served for her while riding a plane belonging to a state airline were considered not to be eaten.

The incident was experienced by the president on a flight back from Nepal.

"When my flight back from Kathmandu I was served cashews on Sri Lanka flight. But the beans were not very tasty even a dog would not eat it," he said on Monday (09/09/2018) early last week.

The president's complaint was immediately responded to by the airline which would replace the cashew stock which was served for flights in the business class, as well as replacing the supplier called from Dubai.
