iPhone XS Max Holds "Best Screen" from the Galaxy Note 9

With a 6.5-inch OLED screen, Apple's latest smartphone, the iPhone XS Max is the iPhone with the widest screen span. Not only big, the screen quality is also the best for today's smartphones.

This was revealed by the testing agency DisplayMate Technologies, which named the iPhone XS Max as the best screen phone, beating the Galaxy Note 9 which was the holder of the predicate before.

DisplayMate conducts a series of tests to assess the screen quality of a device, including color accuracy, color gamut, brightness level, to contrast level and background reflection.

In almost all tests, the iPhone XS Max screen consistently delivers the highest results. The color accuracy is higher than the Galaxy Note 9, with a score of 0.8 JNDC (Just Noticeable Color Difference) compared to 0.5 JNDC.

Then the iPhone XS Max's brightness level is also higher, reaching 725 nits on the homescreen. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 9 can only reach a maximum brightness level of 710 nits under certain conditions and settings.

However, there is still a testing area where the iPhone XS Max scores below the Galaxy Note 9, for example the reflectance rate of 4.7 percent, slightly lower than 4.4 percent recorded by the Galaxy Note 9 (in this lower score is better).

Apple began using OLED screen material on the iPhone X which launched last year, after previously always using LCD screen panels for its iPhone.

Holders of the title "best screen smartphone" from DisplayMate have never retained the title for a long time, because it is always defeated by newer devices.

The iPhone X used to be also known as the best sailing cellphone, then defeated by Galaxy devices from Samsung. Finally, the Galaxy Note 9 has just been named as the title holder last August, before it was overthrown by the iPhone XS Max.
