Alert, Many Fake Fortnite Games and Used for Spying

The consumer suggestion center in London, England, Top10VPN, found many fake Fortnite games that were suspected of being spies and using users' personal data. Besides Fornite, according to Top10VPN Research Head Simon Migliano, there are also many other similar Android applications.

"We found applications that can be used to spy on people by tracking locations, reading contacts, using cameras, even making phone calls secretly. None of these permissions are in official Fortnite game files," Migliano said. as quoted by Express.co.uk page, Sunday, September 16 2018.

Top10VPN is a consumer advice center in London, England, which conducted studies and found more than 30 malicious applications. The application is annoying and widely used.

Fortnite has become a popular game in the world this year, and is present on a variety of platforms. The game made by Epic Games was released in August, but was not presented on the Google Play Store.

"We analyzed over 30 Fortnite Android application files downloaded from unofficial markets, including Amazon, and found that more than 20 percent of these applications could be used to spy on users," Migliano said.

According to the Top10VPN report, fake Fortnite applications are found on markets such as APK Here, Mobango, and Amazon. That information came after Express.co.uk recently reported other Android malware threats, this time spread through the Google Play Store.

In early September, Android fans were warned about the "very powerful" Triout spyware found on applications listed on the Google Play Store. The malware collects records of every call made by Google mobile OS users, logs SMS messages and every picture or video taken by the victim with his cellphone.

Malware was also found by cyber software and security development company, Bitdefender. The company found it from an application called 'Sex Games' that appeared on the Google Play Store in 2016. According to Bitdefender, the application was built as a bigger and stronger espionage tool.

"Although this Trojan is very strong, has the ability to record and upload phone calls, and use the camera and enter the Play Store, the code really cannot be disguised," continued Bitdefender.
